ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Joanna (Tomizawa). Originally from Hong Kong, I moved to London at age 16.
Fashion is my background. Studying at Central Saint Martins & London College of Fashion gave me industry-specialism knowledge from inside the fashion business. My placements gave me a deep insight into all aspects of this fascinating industry, from the top of the supply chain to the bottom. Receiving an offer from Louis Vuitton to work in their Paris headquarters offered an excellent opportunity upon graduation to show I could handle a whole project, and the fact that Louis Vuitton agreed with my vision and believed in my ability to deliver at such a young age was an enormous confidence boost.
I moved to Japan in 2009. A beautiful country, Japan is full of dynamic, rich culture. Great food, advanced technology, friendly hospitality, sleek packaging…but when it comes to shopping, especially for high-end imported goods, most are in my opinion overpriced. In Japan, we pay a premium, mostly for brand value but not always for quality. And for most high-quality imported goods, in my experience much of what we pay goes to the distributor.
With this in mind, this year, 2019 I am launching a new fashion service to the suit-wearing community in Tokyo – Stylizimo.Tokyo. My mission? To bring well-known Italian craftsmanship to beautifully designed bespoke suits in this city. Stylizimo.Tokyo’s premium, individualised plans offer a personal service at an affordable price. With my fashion expertise and unique styling instinct I can help you navigate the design process to enhance or transform your look – perhaps even create a new you.
DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
BESPOKE TAILORING & MADE-TO-MEASURE?
There is something - actually many things - to be said for a bespoke suit. A bespoke suit flatters everyone, never goes out of style and has the power every wearer with a sense of confidence and authority.
However, many people do not know the difference between a bespoke suit and made-to-measure. Let me fill you in: made-to-measure typically refers to custom clothing that is cut and sewn using a standard-sized base pattern. The fit of a made-to-measure garment is usually better than a ready-to-wear(off-the-peg) garment because made-to-measure clothes are constructed to fit each customer individually, based on a few body measurements which customise a pre-existing pattern. Made-to-measure garments always involve some form of standardization in the pattern and manufacturing. Bespoke tailoring, on the other hand, is made entirely from scratch, based on a customer's specifications, with great attention to minute details. Multiple fittings are required during the construction process. Measurements for made-to-wear suits are taken by shop assistants while with bespoke tailoring you should be meeting the tailor who is personally going to create your suit by hand. Some bespoke designers cut this corner, so always ask. The person cutting the garment and doing the needlework is always best placed to meet the specific needs and body shapes of the customer.
In general, a made-to-measure garment will be more expensive than a ready-to-wear garment but cheaper than a bespoke one. Bespoke tailoring is a form of craftsmanship which requires time-consuming hand sewing, whereas made-to-measure suits are machine sewed. "Custom made" usually refers to made-to-measure. The country of origin also affects pricing, with Made in China made-to-measure typically priced below Made in Italy - even when it comes to ready-to-wear.
When you wear a bespoke suit, you will instantly feel like a king among men. But no one ever said becoming king would be easy. Luckily, I have superb Italian tailors to work with me to achieve exactly what you want. An unique, perfectly tailored suit is not fast fashion. To get a perfect bespoke suit, you will have to work for it - with me as your guide.
As you may know, the best tailors in Italy come from Naples. My Neapolitan tailors have been in the family business for three generation already. They will come to Tokyo in person not only to measure you on the first visit, but every time until the final masterpiece is ready to be handed to you.
At the moment I am able to arrange six visits a year to meet your needs on suits, shirts, pants, jackets and coats. Fittings will take place in hotel, or if you have a busy schedule, we can arrange a location at your convenience.
My service especially caters to clients who are looking for sleek & cool Italian style. I can offer a full "Made in Italy" service combined with my personal styling advice in order to achieve your perfect look.
Even if you are already familiar with bespoke tailoring you will find this services exceeds your expectations. You might expect a premium service to cost a fortune. However, my business model is to offer extremely competitive pricing - approximately half the cost of a bespoke suit from Isetan. If that sounds too good to be true, try me.
